10 YEARS OF THE BOLIVARIAN REVOLUTION
VENEZUELA
An inspiration or a failure?
Democracy or dictatorship?
A hope or a threat?
June 17-26, 2009
There’s only one way to know what is REALLY happening in Venezuela .
GO THERE!
This summer the Task Force on the Americas and the School of the Americas Watch are offering an opportunity to experience the Bolivarian Revolution from within. Join Lisa Sullivan, SOAW Latin America coordinator and longtime Venezuela resident, in exploring the Venezuela beyond the headlines. One thing is sure: it’s lively, dynamic, electric and ever-changing! The delegation will focus on two areas.
The revolution from within–What’s working. What is not.
Visit agricultural and urban cooperatives, interact with the educational “missions,” talk with students opposing the revolution and others who are giving their life’s energies to making it work. Check out the “Barrio Adentro” health program, from tiny health posts in rural areas to large clinics and medical schools in the barrios. Learn what “endogenous” means and how a “socialist enterprise” looks in action. Talk with campesinos who are leading their community councils and building homes for one another in their communities. Meet with opposition and government leaders and question them about what you saw.
The Afro-Venezuelan experience and the Feast of San Juan .
The lively San Juan festival is celebrated on the Venezuelan coast on June 23, 24, and 25. Experience the exuberant drumming and dancing to the lively Afro-Venezuelans’ rhythms; learn why cacao is one of the most ecologically-friendly agricultural products on the planet. Find out why Venezuela ’s chocolate is rated the World’s Best.
The Cost.
The $1,450 fee (subject to change) covers all in-country transportation, hotels, two meals a day, honorariums, and gratuities. Travel to and from Caracas is each participant’s responsibility.
